Now that I think about it, imagine if turning the light completely on, and it just reveals Spike blepping and looking wholesome that contrasts that scary look he had when the lights are off.
@Jonny Manz
No real counterpoint since you made a blanket statement of MLP as a whole when dark aspects were there from G1.
G4 has plenty of dark moments and creatures and your previous statement of ādoesnāt even look like he belongs in mlpā is just silly since I can take a number of screencaps from numerous episodes of creatures and things that are not soft and cute, and that is without going into the comic books. If that makes you laugh, then keep laughing.
Also, the aspect of something being creepy in shadow but being illuminated into something less intimidating is a common thing to do and this images conveys that concept well.
@Daneasaur
I mean, that first image isnāt really relevant considering itās from the first G1 special, and MLP as a franchise has gotten that dark exactly never again.
To further expand on my reaction, it is always amusing when someone jumps to their feet, waving their hand, shouting āvery well! I will be your straw man!ā
@Background Pony #3475
He really isnāt handled well.
Such a iffy design, got screwed over due to Twilightās moronic plan(seriously, the deeper you look at it, the more worse it is)
And only there as worf-effect bait and a failure to prop up the new heroes. And thats it, this is the last we will ever see of him in-canon. Its a terrible sendoff for him.
And left off with his memories is left with holes since apparently the sleep messed them up(and its obvious the writers are not gonna follow up on that issue)
I think few will agree that Spike in the new generation is a complete failure. So I thought why not redo some scenes with him, now he doesnāt look like he even belongs in MLPš
The idea of ācute Spikeā blooming into a massive intimidating dragon that only has the same colors but otherwise looks almost nothing like his previous self would have been an excellent idea, but they dropped the ball so hard it is still tunneling to the core of the planet by using a pony model, someone straining to do a ādeep voiceā, and of course the writing as a whole.
He should have resembled his greed form, which was downright excellent as a basis, but that was asking far too much from the G5 team.
No, I donāt agree. He was handled pretty damn well. He still felt like the Spike weād come to love, but was obviously more wise with his age. My only real complaint was that he could have looker a bit bigger/bulkier than the other dragons
Exactly.

your current filter.They mistook the idea of āmore spikeā and āRespect for spikeās characterā as āoh give him wings, right?ā
Same here. I agree that Spike in G5 was a total failure.
