Uhm, every line that the muffins say in this is a thing the Marines say in Starcraft. Even if that particular line is a reference Starcraft was making, the whole thing overall is still a Starcraft reference.

S’cause as good as the old manga was, a ton of the characters just wouldn’t fly nowadays. Old Shinichi was essentially a stereotypical hot guy manga lead and the social problems he faced weren’t always realistic to what would have really happened to someone like him in that situation (Same sort of deal as the main character of the old american 90s movies who was always a social outcast at school even though they were white, good looking and highly athletic).  
New Shinichi is completely different, but there’s a semblance of realism to him. When he gets dragged out back into a fight and gets his ass handed to him until Migi intervines it’s believable because he’s been well established to be a complete wimp, both in personality and looks. The old Manga’s the definition of a classic, but if it was really going to catch on with a modern audience it really needed to be changed.

To be fair, that episode was one of the worst in the entire series, so that’s not a good comparison. :P
 
To be MORE fair, this episode was very good. Just because it’s cheesy doesn’t mean it’s bad…it means it’s actually real Doctor Who.
