Yeah, the stuff about Sunset Shimmer is what I had been considering as well. But with regards to her “expensive clothes,” keep in mind that when Twilight arrived she had a set of clothes on by default, a full set of clothes that fit her both in form and personality. It’s not unreasonable to assume the same was true for Sunset Shimmer. In which case – and this is a scenario I like to play out in my head – she may not have realized her jacket was leather, or what leather was, until it was pointed out to her.  
Anyways, yeah, even spare Equestrian change would be worth a great amount in Earth money – which reminds me that this research also assumes the location shown in Equestria Girls uses a monetary system comparable to ours.

See, the thing about Shining Armor is that his name actually makes sense. His special talent is making force fields. A force field, a magic one, is literally shining armor. It’s brilliant.  
But then they have to go and make his name a template.
