I for one would rather see fans explore characters further and assign them dramatic backstories that give them moral complexity and challenge standards of Black-and-White Morality
Literally nothing about this creates even a semblance of moral complexity. Just because someone was allowed something more than you at some point of your life doesn’t mean you can go and abduct, imprison, brainwash and terrorize people to make yourself feel like hot shit again, and be any less in the wrong morally.

Tragic villain backstories always, without fail, spawn people who treat them like hard canon fact.
