Yup, that’s the one. The Shadow came first, and a lot of early Batman stuff was ripped off of it. I believe a bit was taken from The Spider (which is less well-known), but there’s a lot of early DC comics that ripped off those pulp novels and radio serials. There was even a lawsuit over a Superman comic that ripped off a Spider novel, which DC settled out of court (reportedly, the author of the book actually made more off his share of the settlement than he did off the book itself).

To be fair, the comics were really dark and violent in the early days (back when the stories were mostly lifted off of The Shadow), and the TV show was meant to specifically pull away from that and then it got silly. Then it swung back with Dark Knight Returns and Killing Joke, which both inspired Burton’s take on Batman.
