When taking context from G4 since G5 shares it’s universe and history: this fight makes absolutely no sense.

Sunny Starscout spent her entire life as an Earth Pony with 0 knowledge of Magic or spellcraft, and after only recently becoming a Nascent Alicorn she barely did any sort of training or study to learn how to wield Magic, assuming that it’d just come to her in time.
Pair this up against Opaline Arcana: an Alicorn of at least thousands of years of age due to her seemingly having been old enough to have known Celestia and Luna when they were all fillies, and that Twilight Sparkle was only able to stalemate her in their final battle. And need I remind you that Twilight Sparkles’ feats and capabilities are shown throughout the entirety of G4 where she goes from a well-versed and determined Archmage capable of standing on her own briefly against Nightmare Moon in Season One to bejng able to battle evenly against Tirek who is juiced up on Chaos Magic and the power of every single Pony in Equestria while Twilight retains the powers of the Royal Sisters and Crystal Empress in Season 4…

And somehow, somehow, SOMEHOW: Sunny Starscout is capable of evenly fighting against Opaline. To quote Harrison Ford: “That’s Not How The Force Works!”
