4chan’s had so few big news updates that there was still a news bullet from 2016 that showed up near the top of basically every thread page, nine years later, are you this surprised that hiro gave so few fucks that he never spent money on updating the site’s code

If they hadn’t bothered to update PHP since 2016, there’s no way their on-staff coders could do anything more extensive than maybe add the occasional new board, or do the various tiny things they did for april fool’s. I severely doubt they’re up to the task of updating and rewriting the entire goddamn website.

Nah. The hack was way too extensive; they have a source dump with enough security holes to guarantee that even if 4chan were to come back, unless they do a full rewrite of all the backend and frontend code, the entire thing falls back down like a house of cards in five seconds. And I really, wholly doubt that both the site itself and the base can withstand the site being shut down for as long as it would take to rewrite said code, which could be as long as several MONTHS to a couple YEARS.
