Does Gasgoigne’s gear even offer better lightning resistance than Hunter Attire? He isn’t mandatory, so if you want to come back later with better upgraded gear, you can. If you’re too stubborn for that, just transform the Kirkhammer and go to town on his legs.

You’re right. I suppose a better example would be Mirrodin block, which was still dumb even without Skullclamp. The current sets are generally much more balanced.

Have you ever looked at the cards from Urza block? Things aren’t nearly as powerful as they were.
